On Monday 29 September we were made aware of an incident that took place at Winterbourne Court on the evening of Saturday 27 September.
The incident involved a resident of the block who was making threats to cause an explosion.
Emergency crews were called to the scene and proceeded to shut off the gas supply to the block and as a safety precaution evacuated all residents to Centenary House.
Winterbourne Court is a Worthing Homes property, and we understand residents’ concerns over this incident. Had we been informed what was happening at the time of the incident representatives of Worthing Homes would have been in attendance to assist and reassure the residents who had been evacuated.
Since Monday we have been liaising with the police to confirm that the flats were safe for residents to return and a representative from our maintenance department and the neighbourhood manager have been to Winterbourne Court with Southern Gas Networks in order to ensure that the gas supply is reinstated to the final three affected flats as soon as possible.
We have been informed that the resident involved is now hospitalised and undergoing treatment, meanwhile we are continuing to liaise with the relevant agencies regarding this tenancy.
