Talking heads

Worthing Homes held its first residents conference on Thursday 13 September.

Against the backdrop of the Ardington Hotel, the Worthing Homes senior and corporate management team gathered with over 30 residents and presented on our performance from the previous year. The conference also gave the residents the opportunity to have their say on the final presentation of our annual report for 2011-2012.

It was an extremely worthwhile day with excellent discussion points and lots of positive feedback. We pride ourselves on our engagement with residents as it is their input and feedback which helps us to shape our services. Likewise by engaging with residents we are able to offer opportunities and training which can increase life chances which they may not have had otherwise. Lisa Boydell, resident involvement manager

In the afternoon Emma Wallace, Community development worker, gave a presentation on the work of the community house and the active part that the volunteers and business partners play in making this the thriving hub that it has become. The house offers diversionary activities along with education, support and sign posting for people of all ages. With the help of the volunteers and business partners we have been able to hit our Big Lottery Fund milestones and outcomes. This hard work and commitment was recognised by Worthing Homes in the form of an award for all of those who have played an active part.

The day was met with much anticipation and excitement by the residents who were thrilled to be given the chance to put questions to the management team in an informal manner; with the majority commenting on how much they had learnt from the day, which has given them a better understanding of Worthing Homes and all of the work that we do.
