Sussex police support the Community House

Worthing Homes Community House has received a grant of £5,000 from the Police & Crime Commissioner’s Safer in Sussex Community Fund.

The house, which opened in 2007, provides school holiday and after school activities for children; support, learning and increased access to further education for adults, along with help and advice on all matters when it is needed.

Emma Wallace, community development worker joined the Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne and representatives from over 60 other local organisations who had also been awarded funding at a special ‘Celebration Showcase’ event held in Lewes on Thursday 19 June.

Commenting on the funding award Emma Wallace said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant from the Police & Crime Commissioner’s Community Fund, which is being used to fund two sessional workers and ingredients for two cooking projects, a sessional worker to run the children’s gardening club and a project worker for the creative waves activity which is designed to help those with low self-esteem or recovering from a stroke.”

Commending The Community House on its successful bid Mrs Bourne said: “The Community House is a great example of an innovative local project that aims to make our communities safer. The Safer in Sussex Community Fund was launched to help communities tackle crime and disorder and I am very pleased with the level of response we received during the first round of applications.

“I look forward to visiting the team at The Community House and following the progress of the project over the coming months.”
