Jammin’ at Blue Park

On a very cold April afternoon Worthing Homes held a Skate Jam at Blue Park, behind Chiltern Crescent. This was with the support of Lucy Adams, the Active Communities Officer of Adur and Worthing Council and Parklife Community Action Group. To help keep people warm hot drinks and refreshments were served by two resident volunteers from the Events Working Party.

Thirty-six young people came along and some entered the skoot, skate and BMX competition where they showcased their skills to win prizes.

The skate jam was a way to engage with the young people who use Blue Park, and to ask them their views on how the park should be treated. Just some of the comments made on the afternoon were “don’t throw rubbish on the ground – put it in the bins” “respect each other” and “look after the equipment.” These comments along with others will now form the basis of the ‘Blue Park Code of Conduct’.

The Youth Mayor of Worthing, Cam Hughes, handed out the prizes which was followed by a “Womble” litter pick of the park by some of the adults and young people.
