Innovative smartwire selected as a finalist

Our innovative Relish Smartwire™ has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 Electrical Industry Awards to be held this October under the category ‘Innovative residential / domestic product of the year’.

In essence, Smartwire is a simple, low cost and repeatable innovation that reduces electricity use and saves households money. The Smartwire works through a master power-down switch, a bit like a hotel swipe card; the switch is located near the front door and controls the whole home and allows those essential devices to remain on, while powering down everything else, including standby switches. The residents can choose to plug an appliance into either an ‘essential’ or ‘non-essential’ socket.

A study by the Energy Saving Trust found that leaving appliances on ‘standby’ costs UK households up to £86 a year. Standby use accounts for 9%-16% of an average household electricity bill.

Property service director, Robin Roberts, said: “I’m delighted that the Smartwire has been recognised by the Electrical Industry particulalryl as household energy costs are predicted to continue to rise; our Smartwire solution offers an affordable option to slow or even halt upward trends in household electricity bills. As the initiative is supported by Relish is also helps householders to understand the financial benefits of better energy habits and how much wasted energy they create.”
