Funding a future

Following on from Alfie Parkers success after Worth Award funding helped him to secure his place at the Royal Academy of Music we are pleased to announce that we have now assisted another resident to increase their life chances and fulfil their dream.

Resident Deborah Tong approached Worthing Homes as she had a shortfall in funding to finish her three year course to become a Therapeutic Counsellor. Having already completed two years, this final year will see Deborah complete her higher national diploma in therapeutic counselling skills level 4 after which she hopes to work in either the addiction or mental health field.

Having been in employment for a number of years, Deborah found life changed for her a few years ago and she found herself on benefits. Chatting to Ruth Pollard our resident involvement officer, Deborah explained that she was so grateful to the benefits system but now wanted to go back to working and providing for her family herself.

Deborah says: “I had searched for other funding and was unsuccessful. Then I saw the Worth Fund on the Worthing Homes website so I rang Ruth to find out more. I am passionate in my vocation to get back into work in a profession I feel compatible with and enjoy. Thank you Worthing Homes for your help so I can finish the last year of my training.”

We wish Deborah well in her final year and will be keeping you up to date with her progress.

**The Worthing Homes Worth Award is a pot of money to support ‘local people who wish to improve their life chances by attending further and higher education to gain new skills and qualifications which will help them into employment and/or offer them new opportunities.’ The fund is open to everyone but priority will be given to Worthing Homes’ residents. Each year there is £5,000 available and we aim to help as many people as possible with this funding.

To apply you must complete an application form and be able to demonstrate you have searched for and/or applied to funders and show the outcomes from those searches. Applications are only for the named person and not available for a group, club or association.
