Fun in the sun

It was windy with a touch of sunshine luckily for the 90 visitors to our Community House free fun session, on Friday 4 August.

Held at Kitty’s field, just a short walk from our Community House in Dominion Road, the fun session gave parents an opportunity to have fun with their children without worrying about cost, including a free lunch for the first 50 children.

Along with face painting, a coconut shy, bouncy castle inflatable obstacle course and an art zone the team promoted the work that the house provides for the Worthing community; activities such as homework classes, cookery classes for all ages, gardening club’s along with more essentials such as help and signposting to other agencies for those that need assistance and free food for anyone who is struggling including those that perhaps don’t qualify for a foodbank voucher.

This work was highlighted by a case on the day of a lady who is currently living in temporary accommodation but has no cooking facilities meaning that she misses out on preparing and sitting down with her children to eat a meal cooked from scratch; to assist her in her plight the community house team have offered her the use of their kitchen so that she can once again enjoy providing a home cooked meal for her children.

Clive Cavanagh, community development manager, said: “This fun afternoon has been a success in enabling us to not only provide a free afternoon out but to also promote the work that the community house does, which isn’t just for Worthing Homes residents but for anyone in the community that needs assistance or would just like to meet new people and get involved in the activities.”
