Best day ever!

Saturday 17 August saw Worthing Homes hold its annual fun day at the Glynn Owen Youth Centre in South Farm Road. Our Chief Executive, Robin King opened the event and not only were we delighted to be joined by Worthing Mayor, Bob Smytherman but Tim Loughton MP for East Worthing and Shoreham joined us too!

As usual there was something for everyone. There was an artzone with a portrait drawing competition. The “Batak” Challenge proved popular and gave people a chance to test their hand eye co-ordination; after the “Batak” challenge people could give their hands some tlc courtesy of the ladies in the pamper area whilst the biscuit decorating stand was a real treat! We also had some more traditional activities such as face painting and temporary tattoos.

To ensure the event went with a swing live music was provided by The Luvettes – a local school girl harmony group; while Pete Ridge (on guitar) and Mick Parker (on accordion) entertained guests with music at the entrance. Some of our younger guests were given the chance to try their hand at street dancing after a demonstration by K C Dance Classes.

Outside Albion in the Community held a football tournament and the Community House staff and volunteers had a tombola, badge making and “sew a seed” stall all of which were very busy.

You could test your strength on the coconut shy and there was the chance to try juggling, tightrope walking, plate spinning and poi with the circus skills team.

Ruth Pollard, Resident Involvement Co-ordinator from Worthing Homes said “I am delighted with this year’s fun day, there was great team work from staff. Residents enjoyed themselves and were willing to join in and have a go. I have had many compliments on what a great afternoon it had been which is reflected in the feedback forms. The atmosphere was fantastic and at the end people were dancing.

Thank you to everyone who made this a memorable day, particularly the residents who volunteered and gave their time to attend meetings and help out. The highlight of the afternoon has to be the live music.”

We would like to thank the following for helping or donating prizes for the day:- Adur and Worthing Wellbeing Hub, Worthing Theatres,Haskins Garden Centre, Ego Hairdressing, Lloyds Pharmacy, JMP Computer Services and Sainsburys.
