Dozens of unused bikes from our bike stores will be shipped to Africa to support communities there.
Earlier this week, we teamed up with Re-Cycle, and donated over 45 abandoned and unclaimed bikes from our bike stores, that might otherwise end up in landfill.
The charity who in conjunction with Halfords repair old bikes and send them to rural villages in Africa, for families who need them most. These bikes will significantly improve the travel time to get clean water, food, or to reach work or school. They will also enhance an individual’s health and wellbeing, increase work and education opportunities and give families the extra time to earn, learn and enjoy life.
Simon, our Neighbourhood Surveyor and Facilities Team Leader said he has a particular soft spot for supporting charities who work in Africa, as was lucky enough to spend some time in Malawi a few years ago with a water charity, so has seen first hand how something as seemingly simple as a bike can genuinely mean the difference between life and death in remote villages.
If you would like to donate a bike you no longer use, all you have to do is search for your nearest point and take your bike to the store. To find out where to donate your bike, click here.
