Worthing Homes has specially designed rented accommodation for older people, who require extra service and support to help maintain maximum independence and control of their lives. We aim to provide a home for life.
“I have not been so happy and content for many years- I have made a lot of new friends.”
“Everyone is like family and you know there is also someone there to help you- twenty four hours a day”.

What does Sheltered Housing Provide?
There are variations between our sheltered housing schemes but they usually provide the following features:
- A Scheme Manager service that provides support to each resident.
- Flats or studio flats in good decorative order with fitted kitchens.
- Each flat has a 24-hour emergency alarm that connects to a call centre or Scheme Manager.
- Communal laundry for tenants to use if they wish.
- Communal lounge in which to enjoy a variety of social activities such as coffee mornings, bingo, afternoon teas and parties.
- A guest room where family and friends may stay whilst visiting.
- Gardens where tenants may sit and relax, do a bit of gardening themselves if they wish or just sit and chat to passers by.
What are the benefits of sheltered housing?
- A home for life wherever possible.
- Your own front door.
- Independence.
- Security.
- Good quality housing.
- Peace of mind with help on hand.
- Company when wanted.
- Remaining part of the community.
- The Scheme Manager Service
- The Scheme Manager will check the well-being of each resident on a regulary basis. Residents can choose how often and when this support is provided ensuring a service which is tailored to each individual’s need. Scheme Managers are also well placed to notice sudden or gradual changes in each tenant and can organise, with the residents help, such services as Home Care, District Nurses and meal delivery services when a resident is no longer able to manage.
- Residents have the opportunity to influence services by means of surveys and also the opportunity to join our “Forum” to discuss how our service is running.

Sheltered Housing, however, is not a nursing or rest home and the Scheme Managers do not undertake such duties as washing, dressing, preparation of meals or administering medication.
The Scheme Managers respond, while on duty, to emergency calls. They are also responsible for the general management and administration of the schemes, ensuring fire and health and safety procedures are adhered to. When the Scheme Manager is off duty, all calls are attended to by one of our Personal Response team.
The Scheme Managers encourage social activities, welcome new tenants and help to arrange outings as well as reporting and monitoring repairs or maintenance work.
How much does it cost?

You would pay a weekly rent plus a small charge for the emergency alarm. Some schemes have an amenity charge that covers the cost of heating and lighting.
Housing Benefit.
You may be entitled to this allowance and can be advised about this on application.
Supporting People Grant.
This is funding the support services you get as a sheltered housing resident. Again, you may be entitled to this and will be advised about this on application
