Our story

In the ten years since we began, it’s been quite a journey. The most significant achievement of our first decade is the consolidation of our relationship and reputation with our customers – the lifeblood of our business.

In 1999 Worthing Homes was formed as a not for profit, social enterprise, acquiring Worthing Borough Council’s housing stock. In our first decade we achieved a number of key milestones:

2000 – We pass our first Housing Corporation monitoring with flying colours (the government agency that funds new affordable homes and regulates registered providers).

2001 – We begin a programme of sponsorship of local youth football clubs. We launch our customer shareholder scheme, issuing £1 shares allowing residents to become more involved in the running of the organisation. We help kick start the regeneration of a formerly run-down area of Worthing opening 12 new homes at Alpha Court. We also carry out an extensive survey of all our homes.

2002 – Davison House opens – offering level access, customer parking and a training and resource centre.

2004 – As a part of ongoing, community led regeneration programmes, we support fund raising for the refurbishment of a community park in Durrington.

2005 – A garage is made available for Mick's Garage, which has since grown into Community House, for residents to volunteer with young people, helping repair bikes and provide activities outside school.

2006 – Our newly formed Greenspace team work hard to restore overgrown public spaces – pruning and replacing shrubs and trees. Over 1,700 new trees and 2,500 saplings have now been planted with more to come.

2007 – Worthing Homes, against very strong national competition, is awarded Constructing Excellence’s first ‘National Client of the Year’.

2008 – Our telecare team – RedAssure are the first in the UK to achieve the Telecare Services Association new code of practice standard.

2009 – Worthing Homes ranks as one of the best companies to work for, receiving a ‘Best Companies 2009’ star status accreditation. Based on staff feedback, factors such as leadership, well being and how employees rate their managers, team spirit and company ethos are assessed.
