Kids keep growing
The community house gardening club for children will use more rainwater to nurture their plants, thanks to Southern Water.
The Green Gang, which meets at the community house in Dominion Road, Worthing every Friday afternoon from 4-5pm, received a grant from the water company’s Community Chest programme.
The children grow a variety of vegetables in raised beds which, once harvested, are taken home by them to contribute to their family meals. The funding from Southern Water will be used to buy additional water butts for the garden as well as guttering to fill them.
Joanne Smyth, who runs the club, said: “We are very grateful to Southern Water – this support will make a big difference to our little garden.”
Kevin Buck, who organises Southern Water’s Community Chest programme, said: “Encouraging children to grow their own food is a great way of helping them lead happy and healthy lives and we are proud to help the Green Gang do just that.”
