1000 homes milestone

Article information Published on: May 15, 2014 Updated on: May 20, 2014 Prepared by: Suzanne Newman

We were joined by a host of residents and shareholders, dignitaries including Tim Loughton MP and the deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Worthing along with colleagues from Adur and Worthing Council, contractors and Sussex Police on Friday 9 May when we celebrated the completion of our 1000th home at our latest development in Chesswood Road, Worthing.

Chesswood Road was the last of our hostel accommodation to be converted. The main house has been converted into 2 homes and a further 2 homes have been built on the available land in the garden.  This has allowed us to build 4 much needed family homes, all with gardens of their own.

Robin Roberts, property services director, said ‘We are delighted that our project to convert all of the existing hostel accommodation into homes has now been completed.  The transformation of this one property into 4 much needed family homes complete with gardens, bikes sheds and parking is fantastic’.

As well as showcasing the Chesswood Road development, the event gave us an opportunity to demonstrate what we have achieved over the last 15 years since the company was born in 1999, and to thank those that have helped us reach this significant milestone.

The investment in these 1000 homes, £120million, to be precise, has enabled us to help over 3,000 local people live in a secure, well maintained home along with giving them the chance to start or build a new life.

But it’s not just about the bricks and mortar, we provide community leadership, activities, training and development –  not just for our residents but also for the wider community –  at our award winning Community House in East Worthing and also through our Resource Centre at Davison House.

We have also devoted significant attention to our financial inclusion strategy to support our residents with the challenges they face in particular with the changes to the welfare benefit system. This is supported by our work on affordable warmth through our multi award winning Relish™ initiative.
