10/2007 National Constructing Excellence Awards 2007
Following Worthing Homes' success in the London and South East awards (held on 28 September 2007), we attended the (first) national Constructing Excellence award finals on 11 October 2007. These awards celebrate the best of construction nationally and are designed to showcase excellence and reward achievement from organisations and project teams that have achieved regional acclaim. Worthing Homes, against very strong national competition, was awarded Constructing Excellence's - National Client of the Year. Robin Roberts, Property Services Director said: “we are very pleased to have won the first national final and be named National Client of the Year, as this award recognises the best of construction nationally”. The national awards, introduced by Bob White, Chairman of Constructing Excellence, were hosted by Jo Brand, the comedian, writer and TV presenter (pictured with Worthing Homes Property Services Director Robin Roberts). Bob White said: “The real success of these awards has been the breadth of interest from across the country, from large companies to the very small, from clients, designers and contractors to specialist contractors and suppliers. All organisations from across the supply chain have recognised the importance of the best practice agenda. The quality of submissions received across all regions was truly excellent.” As Client of the Year, Worthing Homes was recognised to have truly driven innovation and best practice; both in the way it manages its supply chain and in the way it has engaged with key stakeholders.

  Community House
Worthing Homes and Spurgeon’s Childcare are delighted to announce that funding has been secured to continue the good work currently being done at Mick’s Garage Community House in Dominion Road until the end of this financial year. Further funds are also on the way to extend the work into 2008/2009. The fundraising strategy for the project includes sponsorship from local businesses, Lottery funding and other sources in order to sustain the work for a further two to three years. A recent meeting with key stakeholder agencies also generated further support for the project to deliver more services in partnership over the coming years.  Local residents and volunteers at the house did their bit and successfully raised £720 during half-term to support activities for children and young people at the house. Chriss Smith at the Community House said “It is great that so many people took part this week and it goes to show how local people feel about and value this place. We are looking forward to a bright future in East Worthing”.

4/2007 Geographical areas
Worthing Homes' Board has approved its strategy for the geographical areas in which it wishes to provide new housing or take ownership of existing affordable housing through stock transfers. The decision on where we wish to work is based upon a desire to provide affordable housing, but also to ensure that we continue to provide our excellent management and maintenance services wherever we work (to both our existing and new customers). Worthing Homes now provides affordable housing along the Sussex coast in Adur, Arun, Brighton and Worthing. To support this growth we are also looking to provide housing to the North of the Downs. If you have a development opportunity and wish to discuss this with us please contact our development team on 01903 703 140.

Building neighbourhoods To continue our commitment to support and improve the neighbourhoods in which we work, Worthing Homes is to invest £30,000 in tree, landscaping and open space improvements as part of its community initiative project. The proposal aims to offer a wide range of improvements across Worthing , including formal gardens, informal play areas and the planting of new trees. All of these improvements will be carried out in consultation with local residents and stakeholders. The next stage is to carry out a consultation exercise on those areas identified and it is hoped we can encourage local residents to participate in the design and if they wish, the planting. If you would like to get involved or find out more about the project please contact Robert Woodbridge, Manager of Greenspace and Homespace on 01903 703 175
