The first phase of a £2million whole site regeneration project in Meadow Road, Worthing has completed.
Built in 1950 the studio flats, to the east end of Meadow Road, had become outdated with regards to their layout, so a number of meetings were held with the residents to discuss the problems they were facing which included thermal and soundproofing insulation issues along with the poor use of space.
Now 1 year on with the majority of residents decanted into their new homes work on the first part of the refurbishment is complete, with one of the blocks having been transformed into 7 contemporary 1 bedroom flatlets, complete with living room, separate bedroom with en-suite wet room and a modern kitchen with storage and room for all essential appliances.
The property has been give new windows and doors, a communal entry phone system along with thermal and soundproofing insulation. Tests have been carried out on the property for air tightness and the results have far exceeded the current building regulation requirements for this.
The communal gardens have also been given a new lease of life with new lawns and paving, new secure fencing, along with communal rotary driers and designated bin areas.
The other 5 blocks on this site are due to be demolished once the last remaining residents have been moved into the newly refurbished flats; this space will then become home to 12 two bedroom family homes.
